Anchorage police investigate downtown stabbing

The Anchorage Police Department is investigating an early morning stabbing in downtown Anchorage that sent one man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday, police responded to a report of a stabbing near the 300 block of West Fourth Avenue and found a man with a "severe stab wound," APD wrote in a release.

"It was reported to police that the victim was confronted by another male outside and a dispute erupted over the victim's iPhone," police wrote in the statement.

The unidentified man was taken to a local hospital for treatment. In a release sent shortly after 9 a.m., police said he was in stable condition.

The suspect fled on foot, possibly with the injured man's cell phone, police said. A description of the suspect released by police said he was "a mixed race male, in his 20s, wearing a red and black baseball cap."

Police urge anyone with information on the stabbing to contact them at 907-786-8900.
