ACS sweeps 1-2-3A, Kenai and Kodiak win 4A titles at Region III track meet

ACS sweeps Region III 1-2-3A titles

Anchorage Christian Schools won the boys and girls Class 1-2-3A team titles Saturday at the Region III track and field meet in Kenai.

The Lions racked up 180 points to win the boys championship by 76 points over Seward. In the girls' competition, ACS finished with 127 points to edge Grace Christian by 10 points.

Tanner Ealum was the star for the ACS girls, winning the 100-, 200- and 400- meter races. The Lions also got a pair of individual titles from Elizabeth Balsan, who was first in the 800 and 3,200 and finished second in the 1,600.

Annie Vanderweide won three events for the second-place Grizzlies, taking titles in the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and triple jump. Grace thrower Ashley Logan was a double winner, taking the shot put and discus titles.

Michael Todd led the ACS boys to victory with a trio of wins, taking the 400-, 800- and 1,600-meter crowns. Todd's performance was buffeted by a double win from Shaun Quinn, who claimed victory in the 100 and 200 meters.

Braden Nieder won the high jump and triple jump for fourth-place Grace Christian.

Kenai girls, Kodiak boys win Region III 4A crowns

The Kodiak boys and Kenai Central girls won championships Saturday at the Region III Class 4A track and field meet in Kenai.

Led by Allie Ostrander's wins in the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter races, the Kardinal girls earned 153 points to outdistance second-place Soldotna by 32 points.

Ostrander – who posted the nation's top time this season in the 3,200 on Friday – added to her haul with two more wins Saturday. She ran a time of 2:12.78 in the 800 to beat Soldotna's Olivia Hutchings by six seconds and ran away from the field in the 1,600, beating Kodiak's Zoe Bailey by more than 30 seconds while posting a time of 4:48.32.

Third-place Colony got a standout performance from junior Chase Stephens, who won four events at the meet, claiming victory in the long jump, triple jump, high jump and 100-meter hurdles.

Kodiak distance star Levi Thomet led the Bears with a trio of titles, adding 800- and 1,600-meter championships to the 3,200-meter win he posted Friday.

Thomet had to beat a loaded field to earn his 1,600 title. The senior outraced Kenai's Jonah Theisen to the finish by 2.84 seconds to win in 4:14.02. Kodiak's Levi Fried was third and Kenai's Jordan Theisen was fourth, with all four runners finishing the race in under 4:19.

Kodiak also got a double win from Kordell Pillans in the shot and discus.

Third-place Colony had a pair of double winners, with Hunter Harwood winning the 100 and 200, and Brandon Nicholson taking the high jump and triple jump.

The meet's other double winner was Soldotna's Tim Duke, who won the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.
