The honors just keep rolling in for goaltender Eric Schierhorn of Anchorage.
Schierhorn on Tuesday was named the USHL's Goaltender of the Year in a vote of league coaches and general managers. The award comes a week after he was named USA Hockey's Dave Peterson Goalie of the Year. Schierhorn in December backstopped Team USA to gold at the World Junior A Challenge.
Schierhorn, 19, this past season backstopped the Muskegon Lumberjacks the USHL's Clark Cup Finals. In the regular season, he went 26-13-4 to set a club record for single-season victories, posted a 2.51 goals-against average and led the league with a .927 save percentage that marked the sixth-highest in the USHL's Tier 1 era (2002-present). Schierhorn twice posted six-game winning streaks and went 8-1-1 in his last 10 regular-season decisions.
He's ticketed for the University of Minnesota in the fall. The Schierhorn boys are pretty good at hockey. Eric's older brother, Brad, last season as a junior winger at Dartmouth posted 10-12--22 totals and a +10 rating in 33 games.
