Anchorage police: Alcohol suspected in fatal Eagle River crash

Anchorage police on Thursday identified the man who died in a vehicle accident on the Old Glenn Highway Wednesday evening as 22-year-old Yong Lor. Xeng Yang, 22, the driver of the vehicle in which Lor was a passenger, remained hospitalized Thursday.

According to a release from the Anchorage Police Department, Yang and Lor were northbound in a Subaru Legacy shortly after 8 p.m. when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Toyota RAV4 traveling the opposite direction.

"The Subaru burst into flames," wrote APD spokesperson Renee Oistad. Lor died at the scene; Yang was taken to the hospital. Both occupants of the Toyota SUV reported "minor injuries related to seatbelts and airbag deployment," Oistad wrote.

The crash remains under investigation, but police said they believe alcohol and speed may have been factors. The road was closed for several hours and was reopened just before 1 a.m. Thursday.
