East, Chugiak and South still in the hunt for CIC softball supremacy

East continued its undefeated march through the Cook Inlet Conference with an 8-0 win over South on Thursday in the semifinals of the conference tournament at Albrecht Fields.

Daisy Page allowed just two hits in five innings for the three-time defending state champions, who also got a 3-for-3 performance out of Sierra Rosenzweig.

Chugiak advanced to the loser's bracket final with a pair of wins Thursday, defeating Dimond 10-0 in the first game and taking care of West 9-3 in the second. Mustangs pitcher Juju Montgomery went the distance in both games.

East will face the winner of Friday's 6 p.m. game between South and Chugiak in the conference championship at 7:45 p.m. at Albrecht. If East loses, an if-necessary game will be played at 10 a.m. Saturday.

By virtue of finishing in the top four spots in the conference tournament, West, South, Chugiak and East will all advance to state next weekend in Fairbanks. West punched its ticket to state with a 5-2 win Thursday over Service, getting 10 strikeouts from Lauren Syrup. The same four teams advanced out of the CIC last season.
