UAA's Kurgat is GNAC women's track Freshman of Year

UAA distance runner Caroline Kurgat on Friday was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's women's Freshman of the Year in track, marking the seventh straight season a Seawolves athlete has bagged a freshman honor.

Kurgat finished 13th in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Division II outdoor track and field championships. She placed third in the 10,000 at the conference meet, where she also bagged sixth in the 5,000 meters.

Kurgat is the 10th Seawolves athlete all-time to win a conference outdoor track and field Freshman of the Year honor.
