Trial for Juneau gun shop owner to begin 8 years later

JUNEAU -- The trial against a Juneau gun shop owner is finally set to begin eight years after the case was brought.

The Juneau Empire reports jury selection is scheduled for Monday in the wrongful death civil lawsuit of Simone Young Kim against the owner of Rayco Sales gun shop, Ray Coxe.

Jason Coday killed 26-year-old Kim in August 2006 with a rifle he obtained from Rayco Sales days before the shooting.

The Kim family believes Coxe sold Coday the rifle off of the books. Coxe maintains that Coday stole the rifle.

The case had remained inactive for years as it made its way to the Alaska Supreme Court, which then sent the case back to the Juneau courts.

The jury will have to decide whether the rifle was stolen or sold.
