Berkowitz unveils full transition team, schedules town hall meetings

Mayor-elect Ethan Berkowitz unveiled the full list of subcommittee members for his transition team Wednesday, as well as the dates for four town hall meetings.

"We have brought together a very talented team and I have asked them to help chart a path forward that is inclusive, innovative, and that wisely invests our municipal resources," Berkowitz said in a statement.

More than 80 people were tapped to sit on the five subcommittees, including business, nonprofit and community leaders. The subcommittees -- on the topics of economy and jobs, public safety, homelessness, administration and "Live, Work, Play" -- range in size from 11 to 23 people, the largest being the "Live, Work, Play" subcommittee.

Former Chamber of Commerce president and mayoral candidate Andrew Halcro, AFL-CIO operations director Joelle Hall and Ethan Schutt, senior vice president for Cook Inlet Region Inc., are overseeing the transition team as co-chairs.

Four town halls have also been scheduled, according to Berkowitz's statement:

  • Tuesday, June 16, at the Fairview Recreation Center, 5:30 to 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 18, at the Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday, June 23, at the Spenard Recreation Center from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 25, at Abbott Loop Elementary School from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the public safety transition team subcommittee will be the first to meet. The meeting is open to the public and will start at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the CIRI Foundation building, 2525 C St.

Berkowitz's statement said more information about upcoming subcommittee meetings will be posted on the transition team's website, ethanforanchorage.com.
