Body found on Kincaid Park beach identified as that of missing man

The Anchorage Police Department on Tuesday identified a body found on the mudflats near Kincaid Park as an Anchorage resident who had been reported missing in April.

Police identified the deceased as Joseph Daniel Belmont, 32. Belmont had been reported missing by family members on April 13, APD spokesperson Anita Shell wrote. He'd last been seen in Anchorage in February.

"Since that time Belmont has not been in contact with his mother, which is very unusual, and has not picked up medication from the pharmacy that he needs," police wrote in a missing-person release in April.

His body was spotted May 29 by a couple walking their dog on the beach between the Kincaid motocross track and the Kincaid Chalet. The couple's call came in shortly after high tide, and there was an "excellent chance" the body washed up on the beach, APD spokesperson Renee Oistad told Alaska Dispatch News.

Belmont's body was airlifted from the beach that evening, about two hours after being discovered.

Cause of death remained undetermined Tuesday, "pending full autopsy/toxicology results which can take up to 8 weeks," Shell wrote.
