Homer jury convicts Anchorage man of Anchor Point murder linked to marijuana sale

A Homer jury in May found an Anchorage man guilty of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence in a 2012 incident in which he went to an Anchor Point cabin to buy marijuana and then shot a man to death, the Homer News reported.

Demarqus Green, now 23, was 20 in July 2012 when he traveled to Demian Sagerser's home near Mile 149 of the Sterling Highway to buy marijuana.

Sagerser, 40, was found a day later by a friend, lying on his back in his cabin. Investigators said he was shot twice with a 9 mm handgun.

Green, who was photographed by a motion-activated game camera Sagerser had set up, didn't deny that he intended to buy marijuana but said he killed Sagerser in self-defense because he claimed Sagerser attempted to attack him with a knife during the buy.

But the jury wasn't convinced by Green's claim of self-defense, the Homer News reported, convicting him of second-degree murder.

Green was found not guilty of first-degree murder and first-degree robbery. He is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 24 in Homer.
