Heat alert: Don't leave dogs alone in cars on hot days

Alaska makes it much of the year without dog owners having to stress over cars being too hot to leave dogs for very long, but with the temps pushing 70 this weekend it's time to take extra caution. I'm told even 20 minutes in a car in the sun can drive interior temperatures up well past the safety range for dogs.

Cracking the windows a bit might help but not enough, experts say. Best bet is to leave the pooch somewhere cool if the other alternative is leaving them in the car.
