Chinooks, Miners on a roll in ABL

The Chugiak Chinooks pushed their winning streak to five games and the Mat-Su Miners scored a doubleheader sweep to extends their streak to three Friday in the Alaska Baseball League.

The Chinooks got a solo home run from Andrew Mogg and a boost from the bottom of the lineup to beat the Anchorage Bucs 7-3 at Loretta French Field in Chugiak.

The victory improved Chugiak to 5-2 in ABL league games and 6-4 overall.

The Bucs (3-5, 4-5) jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, thanks in part to Taylor Jones' RBI double.

The game was tied 2-2 after four innings. Mogg gave the Chinooks the lead for good in the sixth inning with his second homer of the season.

Hunter Hanks and Patrick Cromwell, Chugiak's No. 8 and No. 9 batters, each went 1 for 2 with two RBIs.

At Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage, the Miners swept the Anchorage Glacier Pilots, winning the first game 2-0 and the second 5-1.

Mat-Su's Zach Warren pitched a gem in the first seven-inning game, striking out 11, walking two and giving up two hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Nyles Nygaard led the Miners' eight-hit attack with three hits.

In the nightcap, Vance Vizcaino went 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles and scored twice to lead the Miners. Kyle Simonds pitched six innings for the win, striking out six and allowing four hits.

The Miners improved to a league-best 8-2 (6-2 in league games). The Pilots fell to 3-5 overall, 3-4 in league.
