Chugiak man takes trophy class at Alaska Raceway Park

Chugiak's Steve Lord returned to the trophy-class winner's circle for the first time in about two decades to highlight the Father's Day drag race competition Sunday at Alaska Raceway Park in Palmer.

Driving a Ford Mustang 5.0, Lord clocked 12.8784 seconds at 107.80 mph with a 0.1484 reaction time. In second place was Tim Wilson of Chugiak.

The fastest speeds were reached in the Pro Nostaglia class. Mark Eslinger of Wasilla, driving a 1932 Bantam Altered with a 540 ci Chevy, won that class with an elapsed time of 8.0026 at 161.89 mph with a 0.1468 reaction time.

Action at the raceway takes a break this weekend but returns with three straight days of racing July 3-5. A test-and-tune event is scheduled for Wednesday.
