Firefighter battling Kenai Peninsula blaze injured by bear

A firefighter working the Juneau Lake Fire on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula suffered minor injuries Monday evening in a "bear encounter," according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Few details were immediately available. The Forest Service wrote in a release that the firefighter was airlifted to an Anchorage hospital after he walked about a mile from the site of the attack to the helicopter.

The firefighter is "undergoing standard treatment for animal bites," the release said.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
