Wasilla man arrested, faces attempted murder charges in shooting

A 28-year-old Wasilla man being sought in connection with a shooting that took place last Wednesday was arrested Monday night and faces charges of attempted murder, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers said the shooting took place in a home on the outskirts of Wasilla on the evening of June 17. They were called to the home shortly after midnight where they found one man in critical condition. Witnesses told troopers the victim was attacked by two men, who fled before officers arrived.

Robert Casello, a suspect in the shooting, was located by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, with help from the Mat-Su Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit and Palmer-based troopers, at a home in Wasilla. He was arrested without incident at about 8:45 p.m. Monday on a warrant for first-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and third-degree misconduct involving a weapon, troopers said.

Casello had a days-old gunshot wound to his thigh, troopers said, but a medical evaluation cleared him to leave the hospital. He was taken to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he is being held without bail, troopers said.

The shooting victim is now in stable condition, troopers said.

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing, and troopers ask anyone with information to contact them at 907-745-2131.
