Chinooks reliever escapes jam for 1-0 Alaska Baseball League win over Pilots

Braxton Wilks escaped a jam of his own making Tuesday night to help the Chugiak Chinooks eke out a 1-0 victory over the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in an Alaska Baseball League game at Mulcahy Stadium.

Wilks entered the game with one out and one on in the bottom of the eighth inning. He committed an error to let another runner reach base and then walked a batter to load the bases, but all three runners were stranded when Wilks got an infield popup for the second out and a strikeout for the third.

That made a winner out of Chugiak starter Conner Menez, who struck out five, walked four and allowed one hits in six innings.

Pilots starter Matt Dennis took the loss despite giving up three hits and one walk in seven innings. All three hits came consecutively in the fifth inning, setting the stage for a sacrifice fly Chugiak's Hunter Hawks for the game's only run.

The Chinooks improved to 8-2 in league play and 9-4 overall. The Pilots slipped to 4-7, 4-8.
