Uber says it didn't post Anchorage Craigslist ad seeking drivers

An Anchorage Craigslist ad that appeared to be seeking drivers on behalf of the ride-sharing company Uber was not posted by the company, a spokeswoman said.

The ad, headlined "Local Drivers Needed/Flexible Hours," was dated June 24 and placed in the part-time section of the advertising site.

Anyone asking for more information would receive a link to Uber's driver applicant page and a message claiming there is "a huge demand for drivers right now."

The ad promised a $100 signing bonus and the option of working day or night shifts: "What ever [sic] fits your needs."

It was signed by someone using the name Mark, who offered "personal driver tips tricks and savvy knowledge."

Uber spokeswoman Kate Downen said Friday the solicitation is "definitely not from the company."

The company pulled back from its attempt to establish itself in Anchorage earlier this year following months of negotiations with the city over how the company should be regulated.

Asked whether Uber is planning a return to the Anchorage market, Downen said it is "waiting to see how things develop."
