The Alaska Department of Fish and Game on Wednesday announced the Little Sustina River will be open to bait fishing for king salmon from its mouth upstream to the Parks Highway beginning at 6 a.m. on Friday, July 3. The emergency order allowing bait will remain in effect through 11 p.m. on July 13.
In its justification for easing bait restrictions, the department said a weir count and aerial surveys indicate the sustainable escapement goal of 900 to 1,800 may be exceeded.
