Human jawbone discovered in South Anchorage

Anchorage police say they got a call around 6:45 p.m. Sunday from a woman who reportedly found a human jawbone while walking in South Anchorage.

Officers swept the area near the 9400 block of Brayton Drive but did not find anything else suspicious, said Jennifer Castro, Anchorage Police Department spokesperson. She said the woman discovered the bone in a wooded area near a mobile home park.

Castro said Monday that police were waiting on a possible identification of the jawbone from the State Medical Examiner Office.

"The bone did not appear to be from a recent event," police said in a statement.
