A week after his Mount Marathon triumph, Jornet sets another record

One week after his record-setting run at Mount Marathon, Spain's Kilian Jornet set another mountain-running record by winning the Hardrock Hundred Mile Endurance Run in Silverton, Colorado.

Jornet, 27, completed the demanding race through the San Juan Mountains in a record 23 hours, 28 minutes, 10 seconds.

The loop course, which begins and ends in Silverton and takes runners through Telluride and Ouray, crosses 13 major passes and has an average elevation of 11,000 feet. The high point is 14,048-foot Handies Peak.

Runners climb nearly 34,000 feet and descend nearly 34,000 feet on their 100.5-mile journey.

The race alternates directions each year, and by winning in record time Saturday, Jornet claimed both the clockwise and counterclockwise records. Last year, when the race was held on the clockwise route, Jornet won in a record time of 22:41:33.

On Saturday, he finished more than two hours ahead of runner-up Mike Foote of Montana, who clocked 25:45. The women's victory went to New Zealand's Anna Frost, who won a back-and-forth battle with runner-up Darcy Piceu of Colorado by 35 minutes, placing eighth overall in 28:22.
