Wilks' 6-inning gem lifts Chinooks to victory

Left-hander Braxton Wilks continued to baffle Alaska Baseball League hitters Thursday night when he crafted a two-hitter over six innings to spark the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks to a 4-0 victory over the visiting Fairbanks Goldpanners.

Wilks faced one batter over the minimum and improved to 2-1 with a 0.87 earned run average in 41 innings over nine appearances, including four starts. He needed 69 pitches at Loretta French Field and threw 50 of those for strikes.

Cameron Baranek's two-run single keyed the Chinooks' three-run second inning.

The only other scheduled game in the ABL on Thursday, the Peninsula Oilers at the Anchorage Glacier Pilots, was rained out.
