Brief earthquake jostles Southcentral Alaska, Anchorage

A 4.4-magnitude earthquake centered 13 miles east of Talkeetna briefly rattled Southcentral and Interior Alaska Monday evening, according to the Alaska Earthquake Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The quake struck at 7:08 p.m. and was "felt widely," said an online post from the center. Its epicenter was nearly 80 miles north of Anchorage, about 33 miles below the earth's surface, the center reported.
