Eagle River teen dies in Kenai Peninsula crash

Troopers have identified Megan Frenzel of Eagle River as the 15-year-old girl who died in a single-vehicle rollover Thursday afternoon on the Sterling Highway, the agency said.

According to Alaska State Troopers, the Chevy Suburban SUV in which Frenzel was a passenger was pulling a trailer when the trailer hit gravel on the shoulder of the road near Mile 45, sending the SUV out of control and down an embankment.

Trooper spokesperson Megan Peters said medics pronounced the teen dead at the scene.

No one else in the vehicle suffered serious injuries.

Adam Ferguson, 36, of Eagle River, was identified as the driver. Peters declined to provide Ferguson and Frenzel's relationship.

The highway was briefly closed for the emergency response and then opened to one lane while law enforcement investigated.

The wreck continues to be investigated by troopers. Peters said a toxicology test will be done but added that "at this point (alcohol) is not believed to be a factor."
