Mallott names new director for Alaska Division of Elections

JUNEAU — Lt. Gov. Byron Mallott has chosen a new director for Alaska's Division of Elections.

Claire Richardson, a special staff assistant to Mallott, said Mallott asked for and accepted the resignation of Gail Fenumiai on Friday.

Richardson says there was nothing personal about the request. She says Mallott is thankful for the work Fenumiai has done for the state and wishes her well.

Richardson says there are a lot of changes happening within the division and it seemed like a good time to bring on a new director. She noted that it's Mallott's prerogative to make a change in leadership. Mallott oversees state elections.

Fenumiai will be replaced by Nome city manager Josie Bahnke.
