Voyles' strong start helps Bucs extend ABL American League lead

The Anchorage Bucs on Sunday used Ed Voyles' stellar and efficient starting pitching as the springboard to a 5-0 victory over the Fairbanks Goldpanners that extended the Bucs' lead atop the Alaska Baseball League's American League.

The Bucs, who are 8-2 in their last 10 games, stretched their lead to four games over the Peninsula Oilers.

Voyles (3-2) scattered four singles in seven innings at Mulcahy Stadium and required just 76 pitches, 55 of which were strikes.

Andrew Montoya and Grant Palmer each drove in two runs.

In the only other ABL game Sunday, the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks used two RBIs each from Caleb Potter, Tyler Boxwell and Braxton Wilks to generate a 10-7 victory over the visiting Oilers.

Chugiak-Eagle River's Cameron Baranek went 3 for 5 with a home run.
