ABL: The Anchorage Bucs are on a roll

More stingy pitching helped the Anchorage Bucs generate a doubleheader sweep of the Fairbanks Goldpanners on Monday and push their lead in the Alaska Baseball League's American League to 4.5 games over the Peninsula Oilers.

The Bucs won two seven-inning games, 3-0 and 8-2, at Mulcahy Stadium.

Left-hander Aaron Soto delivered his second straight shutout, scattering six hits in the first game, to improve to 6-1 with a 0.89 earned run average. Michael Stefanic doubled twice and drove in a run.

Bucs left-hander Jeremy McDonald (3-1) went six innings and yielded just two runs and struck out seven in the nightcap. Andrew Montoya drove in two runs.

The Goldpanners have lost eight straight.

The Oilers used Alex Seifert's RBI single in the top of the 10th inning Monday to secure a 5-4 road win against the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks. Paul Lujan pitched the final two-plus innings for the win.

The Mat-Su Miners, who already have wrapped up the National League title, beat the visiting Anchorage Glacier Pilots 7-2.

Right-hander Brigham Hill allowed two hits in seven shutout innings for the Miners, didn't walk a batter and struck out 11. Tyler Wolfe of Mat-Su doubled and drove in two runs.
