ABL Roundup: Oilers rally for win, Miners notch another victory

Ted Boeke's bases-loaded, two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday night delivered the Peninsula Oilers a 5-4 Alaska Baseball League win over the visiting Fairbanks Goldpanners in Kenai.

Peninsula's Brian Ruhm led off the inning with a triple, and walks to Mark Sanchez and James Fowlkes (intentional pass) brought Ruhm to the plate with one out. His walk-off made a winner of Oilers closer Paul Lujan, who pitched a scoreless ninth to improve to 2-1 with seven saves.

In Palmer, the National League champion Mat-Su Miners pushed their league record to 29-9 with a 5-3 win over the Anchorage Glacier Pilots.

Alex Caruso, Tyler Wolfe and Matt Diorio all went 2 for 4 for the Miners, and each drove in a run. Miners left-hander Zach Warren (5-1) allowed one hit and two earned runs in six innings, and struck out 10. Right-hander Brick Paskiewicz earned his 13th save.

The American League champion Anchorage Bucs and Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks were rained out in Chugiak. The game was rescheduled as part of a doubleheader Thursday.
