ABL Roundup: Oilers sweep Goldpanners

The Peninsula Oilers on Thursday swept an Alaska Baseball League doubleheader from the visiting Fairbanks Goldpanners in Kenai.

The Oilers won the seven-inning games, 3-1 and 2-1.

Brent Diaz went 2 for 2 with a home run and drove in all three Oilers runs in the opener. Alex Seifert and James Fowlkes each drove in runs for the Oilers, and closer Paul Lujan earned his eighth save, in the nightcap.

Elsewhere, the Anchorage Bucs and Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks split a pair of seven-inning games in Chugiak. The Bucs took the first game 1-0 -- and it required just 1 hour, 15 minutes. Chugiak-Eagle River answered with a 4-3 win.

Bucs right-hander Quin Grogan delivered a three-hitter in the opener, and Taylor Jones' RBI single in the fourth inning stood up. After the Bucs scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 3-2 lead in the nightcap, the Chinooks responded with a two-run seventh, prospering courtesy of Cameron Baranek's game-tying RBI single and Caleb Potter's run-scoring walk-off single.

In Palmer, the Anchorage Glacier Pilots used Aldaberto Carrillo's two-run double in the top of the ninth to beat the Mat-Su Miners, 4-3.
