Coast Guard rescues 2 from fishing boat in Southwest Alaska waters

A pregnant woman and a man were rescued from a Southwest Alaska bay after the fishing boat they were on experienced engine troubles and bad weather, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

On Sunday, the Coast Guard received word of the 29-foot vessel's mechanical difficulties in Tvativak Bay near Togiak and dispatched an MH-60 helicopter and a C-130 plane from Kodiak.

The C-130 arrived first and monitored the vessel, identified as the Yo Yo, as the man and woman tried to move it to safety using minimal power, but the weather worsened and they requested rescue, the Coast Guard wrote in a release.

"The weather on scene was reported to consist of 10-foot seas with 35-mph winds and overcast skies," the Coast Guard wrote.

After the Coast Guard helicopter arrived on scene, its crew hoisted the man and woman, whose names weren't released, to safety. They were flown to Togiak.

There were no reported injuries.
