Former captain of 'Deadliest Catch' boat Cornelia Marie dies at bike rally

Tony Lara, a former captain of the Cornelia Marie -- a crab boat featured on the popular Discovery Channel program "Deadliest Catch" -- has died, according to multiple news outlets and a Facebook post by the boat's current owner, Josh Harris.

Harris wrote that Lara, who captained the Cornelia Marie in 2011, passed away in his sleep at the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota, on Saturday.

Lara, 56, was a deckhand on the Cornelia Marie in the 1990s and briefly took over as captain of the vessel after former owner and captain Phil Harris died in 2010.

"With heavy hearts we lost one of the original (Cornelia Marie) crew," Josh Harris wrote. "Very confused and sad but him and my pops are drinking duck farts together. Thanks Tony Lara for all u taught me and ur spirit."
