Theft of motors turns into boat chase on Kenai Peninsula river

A theft on the Kenai Peninsula that turned into boat chase has Alaska State Troopers asking for the public's help finding a suspect.

A Sterling homeowner reported to troopers discovering a theft in progress shortly before midnight Monday, but the thieves fled down Moose River in a canoe. They stole one boat motor and attempted to steal another, troopers wrote in an online dispatch.

The residents followed the thieves along the river in their own boat but lost them. Troopers eventually joined the search as well.

The canoe and stolen motor were found along the riverbank, but the suspects were never found.

Anyone with information on the crime is being asked to call troopers at 907-262-4453.
