Runners still have time to enter this weekend's Big Wild Life Runs

More than 2,700 runners and walkers are signed up to race in this weekend's Big Wild Life Runs, a number that should grow by race time Sunday.

People can sign up for the marathon, half-marathon, 5-kilometer run or 49-kilometer ultramarathon Friday or Saturday at the Dena'Ina Civic and Convention Center.

Friday's registration and bib pickup is 3-7 p.m. Saturday's is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Two of the races happen Saturday at the Delaney Park Strip -- the 2-kilometer run for kids 12 and younger at 9:30 a.m. and the Anchorage Mile at 10:30 a.m. All of the others begin and end Sunday at Town Square.

The mile run has nearly reached its cap of 150 runners so there is no race-day registration for that event. But kids can sign up the 2-K run Saturday morning at the park strip. There is no entry fee, but donations will benefit the Children's Hospital at Providence.

As of Thursday afternoon, 2,737 people had signed up to race, with a majority -- 900 -- choosing the 13.1-mile half-marathon.

The field for the 26.2-mile marathon -- a Boston Marathon qualifier -- is at 585. The 49-kilometer ultra, a 30.44-mile race that was added to the menu last year, has 106 entrants.

Registration fees range from $45 for the 5-K to $110 for the ultramarathon. For $10, runners can attend a pasta feed Saturday from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at the Dena'Ina Center.
