Shuffling the deck: Aces announce 2 trades

After kicking off their announcement of offseason signings with two goaltenders earlier this week, the Alaska Aces on Thursday unveiled two trades that ship the ECHL rights to two defensemen and gains them the rights to a defenseman and a forward.

The Aces moved defensemen Corey Syvret and Brad Richard, both members of the 2014 Kelly Cup championship team. Syvret is headed to Florida, Richard to Elmira.

In exchange, the Aces received from Florida the rights to defenseman Gleason Fournier and received from Elmira the rights to forward Brodie Reid.

Syvret and Gleason, statistically, appear similar. Syvret last season for the Aces earned 6-13--19 totals in 45 games. Gleason earned 5-19--24 totals in 57 combined games last season for Florida and Orlando.

Richard, an ECHL All-Rookie selection in 2014, last season for the Aces went 8-5--13 in 24 games, and played 12 games for AHL Iowa before a season-ending injury.

Reid is intriguing. He went 3-6--9 in nine games for Elmira last season -- that's the only ECHL action in his career. He's played 198 AHL games and last season went 9-6--15 in 43 games for three AHL clubs. In those 198 AHL games, he racked 40-46--86 totals. He played one year of college hockey at Northeastern and was a Hockey East All-Rookie selection.
