Kodiak welcomes Eagle River to NLC with 20-0 shutout

Three first-half touchdowns carried the Kodiak Bears to a 20-0 win over Eagle River in a Northern Lights Conference football game Saturday in Eagle River.

The game marked the conference debut for Eagle River, which this season dropped from the large-school division to the medium-school division.

Kodiak began all three scoring drives in excellent field position, twice due to Eagle River miscues.

The Bears (2-0 overall, 1-0 Northern Lights) started its first scoring drive on Eagle River's 27-yard line after a bad snap on an Eagle River punt. Four plays later Isiah Galindez caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from Andreas Carros.

Kodiak started its second scoring drive on Eagle River's 38. Carros capped a six-play drive with a three-yard TD run

The longest drive of the game started at midfield after the Bears recovered a fumble that spoiled Eagle River's longest play of the day — a 14-yard reception by Wesley Walker. It took Kodiak eight plays to reach the end zone, a march that ended with Jay Miranda's 17-yard reception.

Miranda led the Bears with 121 all-purpose yards (87 rushing, 34 receiving).

The Wolves (0-2, 0-1) struggled against the Kodiak defense, which recovered three fumbles and four times stopped Eagle River on fourth down.
