2 charged, 2 more suspects sought in fatal East Anchorage shooting

Anchorage Police arrested two men in connection with a fatal East Anchorage shooting over the weekend and are asking for the public's help in identifying two additional suspects in the case.

In a statement, police said Christopher Jon Winters, 38, and Quinton Henderson, also 38, were arrested in connection with the early Sunday shooting death of 19-year old Byzantium Hill. Winters is charged with first-degree murder and Henderson is charged with one count each of first-degree burglary and second-degree murder.

According to police, just before 2 a.m. Sunday, dispatch received multiple reports of gunshots in the area of Fifth Avenue and Lane Street. When police arrived, they located one man, who they identified as Henderson, being subdued by another male outside of a Lane Street residence. Officers found Hill inside the residence in critical condition. Hill was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later.

Police said a preliminary investigation of the shooting revealed that Henderson approached a male resident outside the home, forcing him back inside and starting an altercation. Inside the home, another male got involved in an attempt to subdue Henderson before another unknown male entered the residence and began firing shots, police said. Two other male residents went to the front door and a man dressed entirely in black began firing multiple rounds at the home, police reported.

Following the gunfire, police said the home invaders fled the scene. Two residents of the home were able to chase down Henderson and subdue him until police arrived.

Further investigation revealed residents of the house owed a debt to Winters and that debt was "past due," police said in the statement.

In an email, APD Spokeswoman Jennifer Castro declined to comment on Winters' location during the shooting, citing the active investigation.

Police asked for public assistance in identifying two additional suspects they believe were involved in the shooting. Castro said the men were described only as being "dressed in all black."

The case remains under investigation, and further charges could be filed. Anyone with additional information about the incident is asked to call police at 907-786-8900 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 907-561-STOP or online at www.anchoragecrimestoppers.com.
