Prep tennis: Dimond, South, Service pick up wins

Dimond 8, Eagle River 1

The Dimond tennis team capped an unusually busy week by beating Eagle River 8-1 Saturday in a Cook Inlet Conference meet at Dimond.

It was the fifth meet of the week for the Lynx, who won four of the meets.

Among those winning matches Saturday were Dimond's No. 1 singles players, Tyler Jang and Anita Samuel.

Boys singles No. 1 -- Tyler Jang (D) def. Dagan Mullins (ER) 6-3, 6-2.

Boys singles No. 2 -- Schuyler Davis (ER) def. Jeonjin In (D) 0-6, 6-4, 10-8.

Girls singles No. 1 -- Anita Samuel (D) def. Kaitlyn Bernhart (ER) 6-0, 6-1.

Girls singles No. 2 -- Tanya Charoonsophosak (D) won by default.

Boys doubles No. 1 -- Kyler Maisey/Sean Carey (D) def. Raymond Musick/Joseph Musick (ER) 6-4, 6-3.

Boys doubles No. 2 -- Conor Bates-Janigo/David Liu (D) def. Sterling Retzlaff/Tayler Gougliewski (ER) 6-1, 6-1.

Girls doubles No. 1 -- Roslyn McCormack/Piper Laudon (D) def. Caitlin Zoleski/Kristen Wood (ER) 6-2, 6-0.

Girls doubles No. 2 -- Su Jin In/Nikira Lane (D) def. Laura Sturley/Laura Berber (ER) 6-1, 6-3.

Mixed doubles --.Alex Ahn/Caroline Requa (D) def. Max Friedli/Magie Spotandki (ER) 6-0, 6-1.

South 7, East 2

Close matches were the theme of the day Saturday in South's 7-2 CIC tennis win over East.

In two matches, each side won a set to force a deciding tiebreaker. In two other matches, players won in straight sets but required tiebreakers to record a 7-6 set win.

East's Carter Epperson won a 10-3 tiebreaker to beat South's Vernon Chan 7-5, 2-6 in a boys single match, and the South girls doubles team of Taylor Matthews and Sophie Sanders also won a 10-3 tiebreaker to hold off East's Erica Williams and Laura Holton 6-2, 4-6.

Service 8, Bartlett 1

In a CIC meet featuring a different format than usual, Service beat Bartlett 8-1 at Bartlett.

Instead of playing two sets, coaches opted to play eight-game pro sets, which allowed both teams to play some scrimmage matches after the meet.

In the meet's most exciting match, Service's Claudine Mock won a tiebreaker to turn back Bartlett's Elise Wood 8-7.
