1 killed, 1 seriously injured in crash along Kenai Spur Highway

A woman was killed and a man seriously injured in a Saturday afternoon crash on the Kenai Spur Highway, Alaska State Troopers reported.

In an online dispatch posted late Saturday, troopers said 52-year-old Dawn Marie Mysing was traveling south on the highway, which connects the towns of Soldotna and Kenai, when her 2010 Lincoln Navigator collided with a 2006 Ford pickup driven by 70-year-old Ronald King Ayhens.

Troopers received word of the accident at about 3 p.m. Saturday. The crash occurred around Mile 19 of the highway, and closed the road for a time, according to local radio station KSRM.

"Mysing suffered serious injury and was pronounced deceased on scene," troopers said. Ayhens was also seriously injured and was transported to a hospital.

Both drivers were from Kenai, and both were reported to be wearing their seat belts.

The exact cause of the crash wasn't immediately available Sunday morning, but troopers said the investigation was ongoing.
