Two people have been injured in a two-vehicle collision that closed the Seward Highway near McHugh Creek on Friday morning, according to Anchorage police and firefighters.
According to police dispatchers, the crash involving a delivery truck and a pickup was first reported about 7 a.m. near Mile 114 of the highway, southeast of Anchorage. As of 9 a.m., outbound traffic was reported backed up to Potter Marsh on Anchorage's southern edge.
Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Renee Oistad said in a 10 a.m. dispatch that the northbound pickup crossed the center line and struck the southbound delivery truck. Nothing further was immediately available on the identities of the people involved in the crash.
"The male occupant was ejected from the pickup, and the female was pinned inside the pickup," Oistad wrote. "The female was extracted by AFD units."
Both were taken to the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, police said.
The truck driver was not injured, police said. He was alone in the truck.
Both lanes of the Seward Highway were closed for an hour until one lane was reopened. As of 10 a.m., both lanes were open and traffic was flowing freely in both directions, police said.
