Coast Guard rescues 3 from disabled fishing boat near Togiak

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued three people from a Bristol Bay fishing vessel Sunday after the ship's engine failed dangerously close to rocky shores.

A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Kodiak after the Anchorage command center received a distress call from the 32-foot boat's operator, the Coast Guard said in a news release Sunday evening.

The Kodiak crew traveled more than 250 miles to perform the rescue in 35-mph winds and 5-foot seas, the Coast Guard said.

The three people onboard were rescued near Togiak.
