A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued three people from a Bristol Bay fishing vessel Sunday after the ship's engine failed dangerously close to rocky shores.
A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Kodiak after the Anchorage command center received a distress call from the 32-foot boat's operator, the Coast Guard said in a news release Sunday evening.
The Kodiak crew traveled more than 250 miles to perform the rescue in 35-mph winds and 5-foot seas, the Coast Guard said.
The three people onboard were rescued near Togiak.
