Troopers: Trapper Creek sees flurry of cabin break-ins

WASILLA -- Alaska State Troopers say they're trying to find out who's breaking into cabins in the Trapper Creek area -- and showed up on photos snapped by one homeowner's game camera.

Three people reported break-ins in the area, but a trooper who went out to check on the reports discovered a handful of additional cabins had been hit, troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said Monday. The area includes cabins in the Oilwell and Petersville road areas.

The thieves are grabbing items that are easy to sell, Peters said, such as four-wheelers and weapons. People in the area have reported stolen trucks, snowmachines, tools and dirt bikes.

The cabins aren't all road-accessible, which makes troopers think the culprit may be someone local, Peters said.

Some cabin owners may not even know their place has been broken into because they only visit to go hunting or snowmachining, she said.

Troopers are working to identify the culprits using the game-camera photos that show two men on one property.

"We think people in the area probably know who they are," Peters said.
