Body pulled from Willow Creek identified as Missouri fisherman missing for a year

Update, 6:00 p.m. Monday: Alaska State Troopers on Monday identified a body found in Willow Creek over the weekend as 71-year-old Jerry Warner of Richland, Mo. Warner went missing Aug. 3, 2014 while fishing at the creek in Willow.

The search for Warner was called off after six days of searching.

Original Story: Troopers on Saturday evening recovered human remains from a creek near the Parks Highway in Willow.

At 6:56 p.m. Saturday, troopers received a call from a person who said they'd discovered the remains while grouse hunting near Willow Creek, said AST spokesman Timothy Despain Sunday.

The body was found partly on a sandbar in Willow Creek, about a half-mile from Mile 71 of the Parks Highway.

Mile 71 of the Parks Highway is in the area of the Willow Creek State Recreational Area, which includes a large campground.

Troopers later recovered the body and turned it over to the State Medical Examiner Office, Despain said.

The medical examiner must make an identification of the body and next of kin will have to be notified before a name is released to the public, he said.

Despain did not say whether the body is thought to be male or female, or adult or child. He also would not say whether any identification was found on the body.
