Troopers: Willow man sought on warrant jumps off roof, flees into forest

A Willow man wanted on a $500 arrest warrant garnered two additional charges Wednesday after he tried to escape arrest, troopers say.

The incident began just before 4 p.m. when troopers visited a home on Lucky Shot Circle in pursuit of a fugitive. According to a Thursday dispatch, they found 33-year-old William G. Veitenheimer, who had an outstanding warrant from the Anchorage Police Department for driving with a revoked license.

"Veitenheimer evaded troopers by jumping from a rooftop and running into the trees," troopers reported. "Later in the evening, troopers received a tip that Veitenheimer was in a vehicle heading south on the Parks Highway. Troopers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle near Mile 53 of the Parks Highway."

Troopers took Veitenheimer into custody on the warrant as well as one count of resisting arrest. He subsequently received an additional charge of fourth-degree domestic-violence assault in connection with a female at the Lucky Shot Circle residence he allegedly attacked after she tried to call 911.

Online court records show Veitenheimer's criminal record includes guilty pleas on misdemeanor charges of theft, domestic-violence assault and disorderly conduct. In 2009, he pleaded guilty to a felony count of second-degree burglary.

Troopers took Veitenheimer to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility, where he was held without bail. An online inmate database listed him as still in custody there Thursday morning.
