Lake Otis Parkway reopened after gas line break near Huffman Road

Lake Otis Parkway has reopened near Huffman Road in South Anchorage on Thursday morning, after workers with natural gas utility Enstar sealed a gas line break.

A police bulletin shortly after 9:30 a.m. had asked drivers to avoid the area, about a block north of Huffman.

John Sims, a spokesman with natural gas utility Enstar, said the break occurred in a 4-inch plastic main line.

"Fire department and Enstar crews are on scene," Sims said. "Somebody doing construction work there hit the line."

Anchorage police dispatchers said Lake Otis reopened to traffic shortly after 10 a.m., and Sims said Enstar crews had sealed the breach by 10:45 a.m. Thursday.
