Underwhelming offense for UAA in exhibition hockey loss

On paper, the UAA hockey team looks challenged to score goals in the upcoming season – the Seawolves last season averaged just 2.06 goals per game to rank 51st among 59 Division I teams.

On ice, that dearth of scoring manifested itself Friday night, when UAA fell 1-0 to Mount Royal of Calgary, Alberta, in an exhibition game in Soldotna.

The Seawolves, who open the regular season in their Kendall Hockey Classic at Sullivan Arena next week, mustered just 13 shots on goal and came up empty on three power plays.

Tyler Fiddler, a former 30-goal scorer in the Western Hockey League, bagged Mount Royal's goal with less than eight minutes left in the game.

UAA sophomore Olivier Mantha, the team's Most Valuable Player when the Seawolves went 8-22-4 and finished last in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, stopped all 10 shots he faced in 33-plus minutes of goaltending. Sophomore Jared D'Amico stopped five of six shots he faced.
