Yet another record for UAA volleyball: No. 7 national ranking

The UAA volleyball team has delivered records throughout this season, and Monday the Seawolves hit another benchmark in the program's 36-season history.

UAA (14-0) was ranked No. 7 among NCAA Division II teams in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll released Monday. The Seawolves, who received one first-place vote, improved one spot after sweeping Great Northwest Athletic Conference opponents Seattle Pacific and St. Martin's, and continued to improve on the highest ranking in school history.

The Seawolves' 14 straight wins to start the season set records for most consecutive wins to start a season and longest winning streak in program history.

UAA in Saturday's sweep of St. Martin's at the Alaska Airlines Center raised the program record for largest home crowd by drawing 1,488 fans, topping the previous record of 1,366 on Sept. 24 in a GNAC victory over Montana State-Billings.

Minnesota-Duluth (13-2) remained No. 1 in the poll for the fourth straight week.

The Seawolves at 6-0 in the GNAC are tied for the conference lead with No. 15-ranked Western Washington (12-2, 6-0), which has won 12 straight matches.

UAA hits the road this week for a pair of GNAC matches, Thursday against fourth-place Northwest Nazarene and Saturday against third-place Central Washington (9-4, 5-1).

UAA is hitting a tough stretch in its schedule. The Seawolves and their next four opponents -- they entertain Western Washington on Oct. 15 and Simon Fraser on Oct. 17 -- are the top five teams in the standings. The Seawolves' next four opponents are a combined 18-6 in GNAC matches.
