Man arrested in East Anchorage shootings that caused school lockdowns

An 18-year-old man Anchorage police say was responsible for two shootings that locked down four schools on Tuesday was arrested Wednesday afternoon.

Emmanuel Mcalister faces charges of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of third-degree assault, and second-degree misconduct involving a weapon.

Around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, a 911 caller reported shots fired in Mountain View near the 3400 block of Peterkin Avenue. When police arrived, they found shell casings. Witnesses also reported seeing three young men in a white sedan, one of whom shot at the building.

The shooting put Tyson Elementary School and Mountain View Elementary School into "stay put" status.

Then about one hour later, a second 911 caller reported someone had shot at a car near East Fifth Avenue and Pauline Street in East Anchorage. A white sedan was again spotted, this time headed toward Muldoon Elementary School, which also took emergency measures, along with Begich Middle School.

In Wednesday's updated release, APD said it had found the white sedan. According to police, the shootings are still under investigation and additional suspects could be charged. Mcalister is also involved in a separate assault case from July, online court records show.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call APD at 907-786-8900. To provide an anonymous tip, call Anchorage Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP or go online to anchoragecrimestoppers.com.
