Driver dies after hitting moose in South Anchorage

A man was killed early Saturday morning in South Anchorage when the car he was driving hit a moose, according to the Anchorage Police Department.

APD and the Anchorage Fire Department responded to the intersection of DeArmoun Road and Norgaard Road just after 2 a.m., APD said in a statement. There, they found a sedan with damage to the front end and windshield in a ditch. The driver, 45-year-old Gerardo Lopez Rios, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The injured moose was lying in the middle of the road and was "dispatched due to its injuries," APD said.
