Matanuska Valley under dense fog advisory Monday morning

The Matanuska Valley is under a dense fog advisory Monday morning from the National Weather Service, as drivers make their commute into Anchorage.

The weather service asked motorists to take precautions in the fog.

"Dense fog will persist through the morning commute and burn off by mid morning," forecasters wrote. "If driving, slow down, use your headlights and leave plenty of distance ahead of you."

The advisory ends by 10 a.m.

Monday's forecast calls for high temperatures in the 40s to fall to nighttime lows in the 30s, amid mostly cloudy skies and rain showers by evening.

Emily Niebuhr, an Anchorage-based lead forecaster with the weather service, said conditions generating fog should diminish later in the week.

"Today is the highest-risk day for that," Niebuhr said. "Tomorrow we have a much lower chance -- there could be some patchy fog, mainly in the Kenai Peninsula."
