Wasilla duo arrested after 100-mph chase, K-9 track

Two Wasilla residents were arrested early Tuesday by Alaska State Troopers after a high-speed chase, with the driver wanted on a $20,000 arrest warrant.

According to a trooper dispatch, Zachary D. Butts, 26, and Tanesha M. Hart, 25, were taken into custody after a chase that began at about 1:30 a.m. Troopers had tried to make a traffic stop on their 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier on West Muffin Street in Wasilla.

"The vehicle immediately fled, committing multiple traffic violations and reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph," troopers wrote. "After a short pursuit the occupants stopped and fled on foot."

Butts and Hart were found at a nearby residence after Blazer, a trooper K-9, and his handler arrived in the area to conduct a track for them.

According to court records Tuesday, Butts was charged with failing to stop at the direction of a peace officer, a felony, as well as misdemeanor driving with a revoked license. Hart was charged with three felonies, including first-degree hindering prosecution, fourth-degree possession of controlled substances and tampering with physical evidence.

Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters didn't immediately have details on what charges the warrant against Butts was originally issued for.

Both Butts and Hart were held at the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility, with Butts' bail set at the $20,000 of his warrant as well as $1,000 and a $250 performance bond. Hart was held on a $500 appearance bond and a $50 performance bond.
