Rapper Action Bronson has emergency surgery in days following Alaska gig

New York rapper Action Bronson said on Instagram Tuesday night that he found himself in an Alaska hospital just days after playing a show at Anchorage's Egan Center.

"Well this Alaska trip turned into me having emergency surgery," Bronson wrote in his Instagram post.

A spokesperson for Bronson told music site Pitchfork that Bronson was "doing great" Wednesday afternoon and the surgery was due to "complications from ongoing hernia issues from Bronson's powerlifting days."

The picture shows Bronson, whose real name is Arian Asllani, at Providence Alaska Medical Center, but the hospital had no patient listing for him Wednesday. He also wasn't listed at Alaska Regional Hospital.

Bronson played at the Egan Center Friday night, then went in search of Alaska delicacies for his Vice-hosted web series "Fuck, That's Delicious." In the days leading up to his hospitalization, Bronson posted numerous photos to Instagram of traditional Alaska foods, including caribou, beluga whale, bowhead muktuk and baked whitefish with seal oil.

Celebrity gossip site TMZ implied that Bronson's hospitalization was somehow related to dining on those foods -- the TMZ story ran with the headline "Action Bronson Hospitalized After Binging on Whale Blubber" -- but Bronson's rep discredited that theory with his later statement.
